If we have a vendor and we make out checks to the vendor's company "in care of" the name of vendor, is this legal? for example: Harry's pizza, in care of Harry Truman. Is this legal?

If you have legal questions, go to an attorney. Most of us aren't lawyers and what's true in my state isn't he steadily the case in yours.

Frankly, this seems like sonething you're wondering about for no reason. You hired Harry to do a job and I'm sure he gave you a contract or invoice describing the work, materials used and all that. If Harry has a preference on what to put on the the check, what's the problem?

My mother used to run a part time catering business and took checks either way. The money still went into a bank account designated for the business and it was used to pay expenses related to said business. There's more to a paper trail than just a check.

Is there something else about this that's bothering you?

Legal?

Perhaps a better question is: Is it illegal for some reason?

Seems fishy. I would confirm directly with the owner of the vendor's company (if that's a different person) and get a 1099 from the company if applicable.
