I am the president of my HOA. I do not feel we are getting good representation from our current attorneys, and I feel we should switch to a different firm. Informally, I know that the majority of Board members feel the same.

Any advice on what procedures would we need to go through? Do we just need to meet, take a formal vote, and then do it? Do we even need to do that? I don't see anything in our governing documents that specifically addresses legal representation.

I'm in Washington state.

Margaret,

This is no different than taking action on anything else. If you are going to switch attorneys you should obtain a majority vote of the board members no matter how you "think" they feel. Your gov docs are not going to address every little aspect of running the assn. If you operate on the premise that all board actions require a majority vote of the board members, unless otherwise stated in the gov docs, you'll be OK.
