I am starting a bookkeeping service for homeowner associations, and trying to decide where to spend my money for advertising. I was hoping that I could find out where would you go to get info if you were looking to hire a bookkeeping service. I was thinking church directory, joining chamber of commerce, I have been working on web site but keywords are not working, I have tried flyers. Thanks for your help. |

MaryH2, It seems to me your target market would be homeowner's associations that do not have a management company (MC), or treasurer to attend to their bookkeeping affairs. Therefore, you should find out what hoa's are in your target area, get a business card produced, speak (and get chummy) with the municpal clerk of the borough of those hoa's in your target area, get some names, make some phone calls, send your business card and see what results. Perhaps you can advertise on hoa related websites as well. GeraldT1 NNJ |

Don't give up on the web site. Using keywords is good, but you have to know how to use them and even then, it will still take some time for them to be indexed and work their way up the search engines. Just as important would be links to your web site from other sites. Set up a resource page on your site and do link exhanges with others who want to service HOA's. Post a couple of basic articles on your site, so that the earch engines find some content other than marketing information. Take a look at the articles at: http://www.communityassociations.net/finance_taxes_main.html A basic article on how to read a (your) financial statement is a good place to start. Since you want your clients to be able to understand what you're doing, it would also serve as a introductory piece to potential or new clients. Self managed associations, including small condos are a good introduction to the community. See if there is a local organization, a CAI chapter, or homeowners group to join. Local CAI chapters can be found at: http://www.caionline.org/about/aboutchap.cfm Some of them have local trade shows or conferences that you can network at. If you let me know the city, state you're in, I may be able to come up with some other resources. Joe |
