Our association will be looking for a new resident manager. Our property is oceanfront in Maui, so that should be fairly desirable. We would like to find someone with at least 2 years experience. Is there somewhere in particular where we should advertise that someone knows about? Is there some basic resident manager job description that may exist? Aloha.

There are two industry-related places to post job ads: one at CAI
http://www.caionline.org/career/index.cfm

and a private one (placement service) at Adamen: current job listings can be seen at:
http://www.communityassociations.net/adamen/ (click on any of the job ads and it will take you to the Adamen site for more information.

Don't ignore www.monster.com

A site called condojobs.com only handles FL, but it may give you some good ideas.

Good Luck!

I am presently on the Search Committee for our Association..We are in Arizona. For the past several months we have interviewed many Candidates..The CAI was the first source I turned to..then I contacted various other HOA's...Executive Directors, Managers, Attorneys that I knew from attending meetings, & those that I had worked with when I was a Board Member, asking them to put the word out. Our next step, was to place an ad in the newspaper..surprisingly many answers arrived from out of State..I suggest you be very careful about the wording in the paper...even though we were careful to explain our needs, we received many
replys from those who had no experience in the field. One member of our Committee felt we should use a headhunter, or Adman, but the other two members, myself included, felt with our past business experiencs that we could fill the position, without spending additional money. Many that had also turned their resumes into Adman..replyed to our ad.

One tip, be sure to get releases & do both a personal & CREDIT check on the finalist. Good Luck!

What is the CAI that you refer to? What is Adman? What are the "releases" that you refer to? Sorry, but I'm new on our board and not familar with these terms.

Thank you.

CAI is the Community Associations Institute at

www.caionline.org

Adamen is a placement company run by Julie Adamen at:

http://www.adamen-inc.com/

I think the release can means: "When someone stops working for you, either voluntarily or because you fired him, a good written release can be your best protection from being sued. Such a release can prevent many kinds of potentially expensive claims, including those for wrongful discharge, defamation and discrimination."

Its too bad I'm almost retired. I turned down a management position in Hawaii a number of years ago and its the only job move I've regretted, every time I visit your beautiful island.

Have you contacted one of the large Hawaii property management companies that provide both off-site management and on-site management. I gave a seminar to Hawaiiana Management last fall and met some incredible community managers. Having a company has advantages that an association employed manager may not, including employment legalities and payroll issues, not to mention the simplicity of changing managers.
