Do you know of any California HOA Governing Document models/templates that our HOA could view/consider during our amendment/restatement of our Governing Documents? Background: Our HOA, formed in 1995, wishes to amend/restate our Governing Documents (mostly our Bylaws and our CCRs) to properly conform with changes in California Statutes (primarily Davis Sterling Act) that have occurred since our inception. We are looking for a GOOD template or model to follow. We may (eventually) secure a 'professional' to help us conduct this process; however, we have budget restraints that may prohibit/limit securing 'professional' help. We have 18 single family homes (Owners) with each on a small lot. Our common development area is small (i.e., road, walks, fences, retaining walls, small landscaped common area). Our annual fee (all Owners) is $10,000 (total from all Owners) We are self managed. Also, please advise if you are aware of any similar California HOA that has recently amended/restated their Governing Documents (name, contact data)? If you are aware of any publications that contain governing document models/templates, please advise? Our HOA is small but likely similar to many in California that have (or will have) recently (last couple of years) restated their documents. Many thanks!

We're in the middle of doing that right now. We retained professional help because the new Davis Sterling requirements are strict and we want our docs to be legal. I wouldn't skimp on this issue. These documents are the legal basis for your Association and if they're improperly drawn, you can be in a world of hurt from a crazy homeowner. I wouldn't view this as a do-it-yourself project.
