Hi there I am new to this site, I have a question. Our documents don't specify if we can have a grill on our pool deck, we are located in Florida and recently had an event that we were cooking for a neighbor hood party. Our president had a fit stating it was against the law. We have no structure only a large pool with chairs and tables. She quoted Florida Statue 514 but I didn't see anything in there about grills. Does anyone have any advise or an answer?
thanks!

Hi Lori, and welcome! I too looked at Statutes 514 and didn't see a single mention of grills at a pool. I DID see that condo's are exempt from those rules except for water quality. Are you a condo association or a homeowners association?

We have a grill in our pool area. It is more than ten feet away from the building, as required by our fire department. We have regular pool inspections by our county health department, and when he leaves his report he places it under the dome of a board member's grill....which is also in the pool area.

So I really doubt there is a problem with having a grill in your pool area.

Lori,

Your President is another perfect example of someone blowing smoke and they don't have the pipe. She is stateing a Statutes that does NOT pertain to a private pool. 514 is written for public pools and beaches so please ignore what she was trying to quote. Your pool falls under the local Health Dept rules and they may hve a setback requirement for an object like a grill.

But common sense would tell you not to use a grill on a pool deck unless that deck is grass or some renewable space. Imagine a grease stain or someone walking barefoot onto a spot where a grill had been used. Not something that I would be too happy with either.

This is something that the Association should have a Rules and Regs on. THIS IS NOT A STATUTE ISSUE!

The best way to find out is to contact your local fire department, they should know all local codes and can tell you for sure...

Most 'semi-public' pools require a 6 foot unobstructed area around the edge of the pool.
This includes tables, chairs, towels, anything at all.
This is an obvious safety requirement as not everyone near a pool necessarilly knows how to swim (or would be consious upon entry after a trip/fall).
