I live in a H.O.A. in Southrn California. It is a manufactured home complex. We own the land and pay H.O.A. fees for common area maintenance, clunhouse, pool, etc.
MY QUESTION: We have several sharp curves in the complex and when a resident allows a visitor to park on that curve it is very difficult to get around it and at the same time avoid oncoming vehicles. We do have a 48 hour restriction for street parking, BUT, I feel there should be no parking at anytime on any curve in the complex. ANY IDEAS ON HOW I CAN GET THE H.O.A. to do that. I sent them a letter and spoke at a meeting regarding my concerns and the fact that if an accident occurs we could be liable for allowing that type of parking. I don't expect them to do anything about it. What can I do as a resident??????????

Keep doing what you are doing...another thing you may want to try is having someone in the passenger seat film as you drive around a corner with a car parked.

Ask to speak at a meeting, ask to have your issues looked into. At this point that is all you can do is continue to ask and offer suggestions and ideas. You can run for a board spot the next time and then you will have a little more pull to get things done.

One thing to remember is volunteers like the path of least resistence. Offer your suggestion to the board, canvas your community for support. This cuts down on what the board has to do. Do it in a positive manner and if they don't buy into it at first keep trying.

It may be that you own the land but not the streets. Do you know for certain that the HOA owns the streets? If not, contact law enforcement and see what they have to say about the parking.

Judy,

If your streets are private, you're at the mercy of the board. However, if they are public streets I would suggest contacting the city/county. Ask what the procedure is to have "no parking" signs placed on a street, or in this case, on the sharp curve of the street. Explan the situation to them. I'm sure they will come out and take a look at it and make a determination.
