What recourse does a resident have if they pay an assessment in the amount of $20,000 and the work assessed for is not completed.

Angela, that is terrible! Unfortunately, without knowledge of the details it would be difficult to suggest what action to take next.

AngelaG - yes, this is terrible!! Not sure the state you're in. However, I'm in NJ. My homeowner's insurance has a special assessment clause that up to $5,000.00 is covered minus my deductible. This won't help you now, but the premium is extremely cheap and worth it in an HOA. Your gov. docs. may guide you on action to be taken where the association is not responding. Research it, or your state law. How did this assessment come about, what is assessment for, were you provided adequate written notice of the assessment, how many other owners' work is not complete...? GeraldT1
