Donna,
What can you tell us about this new State Sponsored Conference that is going to occur in Feb starting 1 and 2nd.

Got any personal opinion about all this? I think I know that the last attempt to make things better, actually added a lot of difficulty to the process and there has been a lot of flux in the legislation about these issues.

Anyone else, please comment.

Donna,
First let me say I don't know anything about this guy but he sure talks a lot and has been on National Tv about homeowners associations. Seems to be a LARGE gap between him and any kind of Management Companies. I think this is true but just my opinion. I hope I am not stepping in something here. My e-maail: [email protected]. Now take all this paper about this and eat it.

FLORIDA'S FIRST NATIONAL HOMEOWNERS' AND CONDO OWNERS' ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE
January 17, 2008

Dear Governor Charlie Crist, Dear Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp, Dear Legislators, Friends and Members,

CYBER CITIZENS FOR JUSTICE, INC. proudly announces FLORIDA'S FIRST NATIONAL HOMEOWNERS' ASSOCIATION AND CONDO OWNERS' ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE in Broward County, February 1 + 2, 2008.

FOR DETAILS, TIMES AND LOCATIONS PLEASE SEE:
http://www.ccfj.net/CCFJCONFERENCEMAIN.htm

It is the first meeting in Florida with national participation organized by owners, for owners, for the benefit of homeowners and condo owners nationwide! We have organized a meeting with experts on this field from various states of the nation.

David Kahne, author of the AARP Homeowners' Bill of Rights will present the bill, explain the reason why this bill was written and why it is necessary to implement the provisions of this bill! Many other guests and experts will make presentations, trying to explain the existing problems and the desperate need for reforms.

The CONFERENCE will start Friday, February 1, 2008, at 6:30 P.M. in Ft. Lauderdale with a town hall meeting with activists from around the nation. Please see details at: http://www.ccfj.net/CCFJCONFERENCEACTIVISTS.htm

The big event will be Saturday, February 2, 2008 from 1:00P.M. - 5 P.M. in the Clubhouse of Century Village East in Deerfield Beach. We have invited a panel of Florida legislators and many knowledgeable speakers that will discuss what's wrong with the existing system and what needs to be done to make it OWNER FRIENDLY!
Please see all the details at: http://www.ccfj.net/CCFJCONFERENCECVE.htm

We will as well present the bills that will be proposed for the upcoming session. It is very clear that reforms are needed in order to protect the welfare of our families. The bad economy, high insurance premiums and even higher property taxes are forcing everybody to see that money is not falling through the cracks and that our associations are run efficiently! The meetings of the HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE ON CONDOMINIUM & HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION GOVERNANCE will further show what serious problems citizens living in associations are facing! This needs to change!
CYBER CITIZENS FOR JUSTICE, INC. has organized this Conference for the benefit of homeowners and condo owners. The many complaints we see each day show that reforms are desperately needed.

All organizing is done, it's up to you, Florida's homeowners and condo owners, to make this CONFERENCE a success! We have a great program with many very interesting presentations! BE THERE AND BE HEARD!

Please contact me with any specific questions!

OOOH! Thank you for all of that. I did not know about it because I do not follow them. I should tho.

Cyber Citizens for Justice in my opinion is a National Organization that was formed to fight Boards and many injustices that occur in HOA's I have visited their site many times in the last couple of years, to read what is the major complaints from people who live within the HOA structure.

They have some legitimate issues that they approach State Legislatures with but I am very much against many items that they lobby for and against. Basically, they have taken some very good enforcement power away from associations thru lobbying for new passing of new Statutes. But they have done some good too, like last year, all ARC decisions must be done according to guidelines that have to be specific in nature. No more winging it at the whim of committee members. That was good for all of us but many of their campaigns are too liberal and unrestrictive in nature. Non Board members love them. I do not.

I would also like for folks here in FLorida to go read the AARP bill of rights...VERY INTERESTING and good reading....I have friends in Tally that are lobbyists for HOA and COA groups and they are only interested in seeking and passing statutes to "protect" the homeowner now and in the future........ IF only it wasn't so far away I for one would attend the forum..I have LOTS TO SAY........It is a big weekend here at our HOA...ELECTION TIME...I am once again seeking a seat and it should be a free for all on Sunday..... I am so excited that we mustered up the people and are expecting we think the largest turnout of HO'S ....FINALLY..... hopefully apathy will be a thing of the past here now....Results on Monday......Wish me luck.......LindaC3

Linda,
With your enthusiasm and interest, your members would be foolish not to support you. Even through I don't know you personally, you got my vote. I think a lot of us have reached a conclusion about apathy in the associations we just want someeone to step up and do something, even if it's wrong.
It really can be exciting, albeit hard work, when you get involved in your HOA.

Do you want me to send a proxy? That ought to liven things up.

RobertR1...LOL LOL.....please fax proxy to 1-800- say no 2 proxy.....LOL... Me and the "gang" are all over that this year in our HOA.....They are NOT gonna get away with the same stuff-- and I am being polite - as they have in years past....It seems this year the " those who truly care " are outnumbering the " we want to be your parents and dictate your every move " group..YAHOOOOO....Finally after close to 3 years of being on commitees and educating these homeowners it may just pay off this weekend.... and if all works out the way we hope it does...we can all go back to doing what we should have been doing all along..ENJOY OUR NEIGHBORS AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD..................LindaC3

Just to clarify a few things. This isn't a state-sponsored conference. Its run by CCFJ, which is a Florida, not national, organization. The state of Florida is sponsoring committee hearings around the state. Here is the article on those:

"The new state House committee created to look into problems in condo, homeowner and co-op associations in Florida will hold the first of five required meetings in Pembroke Pines on Jan. 26.

State Rep. Julio Robaina, R-Miami, chairman of the seven-member Select Committee on Condominium & Homeowner Association Governance, on Wednesday said the hearing will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Broward Community College's south campus, 7200 Pines Blvd.

The only other South Florida meeting will be in Miami Beach from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 9, but the location hasn't been determined. Other dates will be announced later.

House Speaker Marco Rubio, R-West Miami, on Monday announced creation of the committee to investigate accounting, budgeting, auditing and thefts of association funds by officers. Also, he wants it to probe problems with elections, access to records and other issues. He ordered it to meet in Sunrise, Miami Beach, Orlando, Tampa and Tallahassee and to report its findings and recommendations for new laws on March 3, a day before the state of the next legislative session.

Pembroke Pines was selected because a meeting place was available and is accessible from Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike.

The committee wants to hear from owners who have some evidence of financial irregularities. If an owner has had problems gaining access to association documents, which state law says must be open, the committee will subpoena them, Robaina said.

"We want cases that have come to a standstill because of lack of information or stalling," he said.

The committee will also consider non-financial complaints but only from owners who can document that they have unsuccessfully tried to resolve the problem, such as by mediation.

Only owners who can't get financial documents and believe they will need subpoenas should sign up in advance. Call Robaina's office at 305-442-6868. Everyone else should just show up, he said."

Excellent addition Joe, thank you.

Go Linda and her gang of renegades and nea'r do wells. Keep your sense of humor, and stop a moment and think about how American your actions are.

Joe and Sancho,

Thank you for the clarification to the State sponsored meetings, which are the productive ones. CCFJ has been a thorn in many an Association laws and Statutes but once in a while, they do bring important items to the table.

I on the other hand work to keep CALL in the forefront, which represents Boards and HOA positive legislation. It is too bad that there are BAD BOARDS because they are the ones who cause all of us to spend time lobbying for more legislation.
