Hello, again. I know I have ask about this before. We have 1 man who thinks he should get his money back because he got sick and could not attend. He called at 12 noon that day, caters were coming at 6.He thinks he is due money. Being on the board, both him and I we had it out. He still should get his money back. Now as a board do we HAVE to give it back?I also am in charge of the activites with 8 other members, who make dissions. The HOA do not fund us in any way. We are self supporting. I say no again. Now he wants to meet with 3 of the activites members and find out why he can't have money back. We paid for the dinner whether he came or not. This man has always been a problem.Happy New Year to all...LaVerneB. PS his wife could have walked over and picked up the dinners..........

How much are we talking about? Most events have a cut off time to cancel before the food is prepared. Once it is prepared and you are obligated to pay for it, there cannot be a refund. If this occurs regularly, be certain to add a cut off time for your next event for cancellations.
If this does not involve your HOA, what is the problem?

Laverne,
We all stated to you previously, that you owe him NO refund. The money was spent and where does he think the refund cash will come from. Does he not get the fact that the caterer was paid for the dinners, used or not used? As Harold said, someone could have picked up the dinners.

LaverneB: Give it to him in writing. Ask the Mgmt. Company to send a letter 'reminding him'...he cancelled AFTER the cut-off date, the dinners were there for him but he & wife chose not to get them. Let it go at that. This is a business decision, and no one will refund after cut-off date. End of story.

Did you have to pay the caterer for these dinners? If not, refund the money. If so, simply tell him that it was too late to cancel for a refund.

NEXT TIME, be sure to have a cancellation date on your invitation.

No Refund...make sure next time there is a disclaimer on your ticket or invitation that says no refunds. That is pretty standard practice not to give refunds to these types of things.
