The total number of units in our HOA is 450.

I am curious to know (if other HOA's can chime in) on the number of units their association has, (especially in the neighboring Santa Clara Counties and beyond).

I'm guessing we are large enough to possibly be setting a precedent to smaller HOA's in what we do in the neighboring counties, (practices, rates etc). This may or may not be true, but more true than not if in fact we are considered large enough to be referenced to.

I would truly like to know this because the added awareness would be good cause to consider heavily the consequences of decisions made since it has the potential to affect other HOA's in the neighboring areas.

Thank You...

Welcome, Tony, but I, too, am not sure what you're driving at.

I also am not sure that 450 units is all that big in SV. Are you condos or detached homes, or what? I rented in a low rise large condo building at 3rd & E. San Fernando in downtown San Jose in '04 and it seems to other condo HOAs were quite large too.

Even if your HOA was much bigger than most, I don't think your decisions would have much effect on others. While many HOAs, especially in the same area, may be similar, they are all different and have to operate based on their own governing documents.

Actually, the best way one HOA can have a big effect on others is to make some really bad decisions resulting in case law and legislation.
