Hi, Everyone --

Has anyone on HOATalk in California put together an RFP for common area EVCSs? We are in the initial stages of researching the idea and as you can imagine, there's very little information out there still. I'd like to solicit feedback (pros, cons, ideas, tips, etc.) from those of you who have gone through this already. If you're willing to share your RFP, that would be great!

Best,
Daniel

Go to davis-stirling.com for excellent info on EVCS.

We did a survey of our 200+ condo units to see if all Owners were willing to share the expense of 2 EVCS in our underground Visitor Parking spaces. The response was a resounding no. The reason is that individual owners may install these at their deeded parking spaces in the underground garages levels. There are a lot of hoops to jump through re: the City & electricity company and the total cost, I recall is about $18,000 plus monthly electricity, maintenance, etc. No one has applied to our ARC yet to do this. Meantime, our city is installing more & more in convenient locations.

There actually is a lot of info available.

Hi, Kerry --

Thanks. We have incorporated what DS says. I'll agree - exhaustive resources. We also have a survey to send out to take the community's temperature on the issue. There is a wealth of information online about EVCSs, but if someone has already gone through the RFP process for designing, selecting vendors, and installing their common area EVCSs, I wanted to be able to leverage their RFP.

Our owners know they can install EVCSs on their own through our ARC, but no one has and the limited anecdotal evidence suggests cost is a burden. Our issue is that our parking spaces are deeded carports using common area electricity. One's deeded space is not necessarily convenient to a panel thus requiring costly and extensive trenching, X-raying, etc. Electricity throughout the community is shared and we think there's a way to leverage that shared electricity to achieve the goal. Our goal is for the HOA to not pay for this project using any Association funds.

There's an opportunity right now to get your common interest development EVCS project fully funded through "Charge 2017" - a grant program. I have no idea how much of these funds have been awarded, but there's $5 million available. See http://www.baaqmd.gov/?sc_itemid=F026D4AC-FE69-4FBD-9232-187E17FC428D.

In San Jose we have far more public EVCSs than we did just two years ago, but they do require a bit of a drive to access.

Best,
Daniel
