I would suspect as hosting gets cheaper and web development aids get better, there will be even more of this type of independence from the association and the conflict it creates in some board's minds.
Also, our legislatures often have passed sunshine laws but appear to be totally ignorant that so much board business is now done by email. As one poster said it amounted to board meetings by email -- in our state they have worried about conference calls but have not even considered, apparently, email.
