We have to update our CC&Rs and Bylaws by next year. Does anyone know of a cheap way to go about this? We are in California and have Davis Sterling, so I am hoping there is basic form somewhere. Our attorney charges $120 for a collection letter so I can't imagine how much it would cost for what we want. We have typed the documents into a word format (they are old copies from the sixties)and added the changes we would like to make in highlighted colors. As we have just almost doubled the water assessment this year most owners do not want to spend any more money. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Our dues are so low all we can add is $16 per month and that will not cover anything.

Tammy,

Once your Association votes and approves the Bylaws and CC&Rs, contact the attorney and ask that they file them on behalf of the Association.

It will cost some money but this way you will be sure that the documents are filed properly.

If you haven't voted on the documents yet and want to be sure the changes comply with the law, it may be worth some money to have the attorney do a review of them. This could cost $1,000. However, if the Board is sure that they do comply with the law, then a legal review may not be necessary.
