Our Annual meeting was so out of control last month by not following the Governing documents. How soon do we need to ask for a recall? And is this common.

What were you looking for? HOA's it is the blind leading the blind through the golden rule... You have to look at what your dealing with. No one is a HOA expert and no one gets it right. Your HOA is ONLY made up of your neighbors and yourself. So I would recommend install of yelling recall because things are "crazy", try speaking the governing documents information... You can't keep recalling every member in your HOA as there is a small pool of people available to actually BE on your board.

Why not instead bring the documents to the meetings. Maybe hold a workshop covering sections of the rules so people can be educated but NOT in a meeting envrionments. Take this oportunity to change and modify/update those documents. This way you educate and make changes to get things better.

Ann -

It sounds like your meeting got out of control because of high emotions on subject matters - that and because the chairperson did not know how to lead the meeting and shut off distracting talk from the agenda business.

Annual Meetings are not the place to solve and deal with "problems" Instead, the board should be asked to establish an ad hoc committee to hear concerns about XYZ subject and report back to the Members within a certain time frame.

Then workshop type gatherings can be set up to hear complaints, etc. One or two board members attend and one can lead the meeting. No motions can be entertained, but rather it's a fact finding meeting.

I like this thread. So far our annual meetings have not been too far out of control. This is only the second annual meeting I will be attending as a Board member. I hope things go smoothly.
I like the asnwers so I want to keep this thread in my forums.

I think there is a huge difference between inexperienced HOA board members and absolute chaos. We were all at one time inexperienced in either an HOA or in our jobs. I can't speak for everyone else, but chaos didn't rule my life. I do agree it may be premature to start a recall, I think there needs to be an understanding of why this happened. Was it as someone mentioned touchy subjects, was it an overzealous board, was it poor leadership.

Ann, more details, please.

What do you mean by "not following the governing documents"?

What topics or individuals were problems?

What was on the agenda? Election of directors only? Or something else too?

Are you saying that you'd want to consider recalling all directors (kicking them off the board)?

Or does "recall" have some other meaning for you?
