I live in a townhouse in an Illinois Common Interest community A board director, who is not an officer, sent out all the official important info and a questionaire about our 1/27/2012 upcoming annual meeting.to homeowners with their e mail addresses blocked out. If homeowners want to respond with questions or comments, their e mail will only go to the that director who sent the info out, not to all the homeowners as they want it to do...
Whatis an opinion on this???

What is an opinion on this???

Smart, I'd be P/O'ed if someone gave my personal email address that I'd entrusted to the HOA out without my permission.

Studies show that 5 out of 4 people have problems with fractions

Marie,

If the information was mailed or hand delivered, the owners would still only have the option of responding to the Board unless they talked to their neighbors one on one.

Associations must take due diligence in protecting private information that is provided to them. Releasing information that isn't public could result in legal issues for the Association. In fact, many States have laws that prevent the releasing of e-mails.

At the individual level, as Glen pointed out, many people would be outraged if their e-mail was made public and they started getting e-mails from people they didn't know.

Personal opinion, your Association did the right thing.

If you feel strongly about the issues, make sure you attend the meeting and/or talk to your neighbors and solicit their proxy.

Thx for your responses. Didn't explain my confusion over this issue. All HO's e mail addresses in my HOA are and have always been open to all the other HO's including mine. Minutes were always e mailed to all HO's without concealing any addresses I've never seen any requests to conceal their e mail addresses .. This is an internal issue, I erred asking advice for, when all the facts involved canoot be explained.Again, thanks to all for your responses..

I believe it's an assumption that all homeowners are open with their email addresses not to mention that if all home owners could read their neighbors' input on the community, you would not get candid answers - meek on the part of some, blustering on the part of others who have a platform via email list.
