I need some help. Could someone let me know the year the law prohibiting age discrimination in housing was passed? There was a small problem with an owner (former President) regarding this at the meeting last night.

I know the amendment to the FHA preventing discrimination due to disability was passed in 1988.

The Fair Housing Act was in 1968. Age was not part of this initial law.

The 1988 amendments allowed exemptions to the act in the case of housing for older persons.

There have also been many executive orders to the act which expanded the act further. Here is a link
to a list of the amendments and executive orders.

Housing for Older Persons Act (HOPA) was passed in 1995 and redefined the exemption to the familial status provisions of the Fair Housing Act.

I may have missed it. However, I could not find where there is anything prohibiting selling a home based on age except for the fact that the law protects you from being discriminated against if you have children (familial status provisions).
