Parking and Traffic become problematic whenever individuals have yard sales (at least in our townhome area where there is no parking and all the visitors are parking in the fire lanes). Before the board enacted a new rule that allows yard sales in only one area where there is ample parking, it was terrible. One morning my entire street was lined with cars, every driveway was blocked in and the visitors were cranky about moving their cars in order to let people out of their own driveways. In order to wet (satisfy) the communities need for yard sales, the HOA now sponsors one big one in the spring and one in the fall. That seems to work fine. Seeing yard sale signs every weekend around the neighborhood isn't what I'd like to see. Good luck.
I have kind of waited to respond to this as I think getting down to the point where you bar garage sales is just petty and over the top. But Mike does bring up a valid point, if garage sales do cause issues in your neighborhood designating a couple weekends a year, or one weekend a month might be a good compromise. At any rate it is better to do them in bulk anyway, drives more traffic and gets more sales and it the pain of increased traffic in the neighborhood is decreased to a bare minimum.
