This question is prompted by a post submitted by MaryB titled "Rebates To MC"

For $50 you could get kids to pick up the papers.
OUR COMMUNITY 342 HOMES AND THERE IS NO PORTER SERVICE.

My concern:
Ours is a Private Community in Maryland. To be exact 167 Homes:
Our MC is pushing (VERY hard) for a porter service for our community. Cost submitted was $7200.00 per year. $600.00 per month. $150.00 per week. Earlier in Mary's, post I stated I had told our board a person in a walker could canvass our community in a walker within two hours to perform this task, meaning it comes down to $75.00 an hour.
Not to mention, our lawn care maintenance duplicates this same service weekly.
On Tuesday's, this (proposed) service task would go through the community to pick up debri left by the trash pick-up performed on Mondays. (small pieces of paper, etc
She said MOST communities our size have such a porter service. (She is pushing for this very, very hard)

After this long post I would simply like to ask the forum to give the state your HOA is in, the size and wether you have such service. (simply YES/NO) Our board meeting is on Tuesday, evening and I would like to have a consensus by then..;;;;;;;;;Sincere thanks for any responses.

James, we manage several associations in colorado. None have porter service. Litter is picked up by the grounds maintenance companies and the homeowners. A cost of $7200 for porter service once a week for 167 homes seem extremely high to me. I would try to hire a person in the neighborhood as an independent contractor or ask each owner to maintain their area.

We're in Arizona with 140 homes, and I would never agree to pay that kind of money for a porter service. I could do 167 homes in about one hour. We don't have porter service. We tell people to clean up the street in front of their house, because they own that portion of our private streets.

The cost per month for each of your home owners is $3.59 for this service. Unless this is a very high end neighbors with homes in the $2mil range, then I would think the homeowners would not want to be paying an extra $3.59 in dues. If money is no object and the homeowners don't mind paying that money, then that's fine. You could still get a better price.
