Hello again. I am the president of our acctivity comm. as well as on the Board of Directors. There are 7 other people on the activty as well New Years Eve we had Dinner/Dance. As expected some got sick. Now, we returned money to thise who gave us notice. But a couple called us noon that day and was not coming due to spouse illness(1) we had already guaranteed the meals to cooks, as late as day before. He said we should give him his money back. I say NO sorry things happen but we still had to pay for those meals, etc...he is in uproar about it. Who would you side with. We have to draw the line some where. What a start to New Years. Oh, yes this is a board member also, so of course he thinks he should have special treatment. LBJB6290@AOL.COM

Laverne,
What you should do next time is state on the tickets or flyers that cancellations with refunds will be accepted until 24 hours prior or whatever works for you.
Tell Mr. Board member that the meals were paid for in advance and the money is gone. No special treatment for anyone, President, King or Frank Sinatra, no one. He should have come to do hgis food on a "Take Out", therefore he got some of his money's worth.

LaverneB - One spouse was so suddenly sick the day of the event that the other spouse couldn't join the party? Puleease!! I would stick to my guns and advise the BOD member that adequate notice was not received and reimbursement is not possible.

LaverneB: I agree with the other posters on how you might react to the Board member/resident who 'wants his money back'.

He gave notice on the "day of affair" that one was sick and they would not attend. Therefore, he could have come to collect his 2 meals and did not--The fact that this may not have been offered to him does not negate the truth that he could have attended but he did not. Or, the 'well' one could have attended and eaten both meals!!!
And, last but not least, there is no one, on New Year's Eve, who will give money back on a no-show. Sometimes, sh** happens!

Well, appears this a no brainer, and the pun is intended.
You don't owe this guy any more explanation that what you gave him. I just hope the President does his job and tells this guy to back off. In my opinion, you have done the right thing and inform him the conversation is closed.

I caution you not to be drawed into whatever is bugging this guy, it's probably not the money.
